A Match Made In Heaven – Australian Equine Photographer – Serata Equine

On my recent trip to sunny Queensland I had the pleasure of meeting Chrissie and her gorgeous mare Poppy, oh…and a very cute little Wallaby who unlike here in Victoria was more than happy to say hello!

The session I envisioned was one of our “Creative” style sessions, with one of our New studio dresses I had just received, and Chrissie was most willing to allow me creative freedom to capture some special moments between her and Poppy, and the love they both share.

Before the session I asked Chrissie some quick questions about Poppy and their own personal story and how they came to be, and you will see from their gallery below, the love between them is amazing and palpable.

What is your horses name?

Poppy (competition name is Confetti)

And how long have you owned Poppy?

Just on 5 months now

What lead you to owning Poppy? 

After a big relationship break up last year and re stabilising myself, I decided it was time for better balance in my life and time to devote effort into the things that make me really happy – horses. I had put a post on a Facebook group describing some pointers of the kind of horse I was looking for and Poppy’s owner sent me a message (she was not currently advertised but she said she would sell to the right home). I immediately fell in love with her good looks and personality and she felt wonderful to ride! I had some hesitations about my riding ability and not “ruining” her which I talked through honestly with her owner and it made me careful to continue getting lessons once I bought her to ensure I keep stepping up my game and doing the best by my horse.

What do you and Poppy spend your time doing together? 

We train and compete Dressage, we have our first Novice start this month. We also enjoy a bi-weekly trail ride for variety and conditioning which includes the odd jumping of logs! I feel lucky to have found some great trainers and we have weekly lessons currently too.

And finally, what does Poppy mean to you? 

I don’t think I’ve ever had a horse I’ve felt as “connected to” as Poppy. She is such a loving mare and I really enjoy our time spent together – no matter our competition results. She allows me to forget all the drama in life and just be “in the moment” when I am with her – which is priceless.
